A LOOK BACK AT 2016

2016 began with a lot of sadness for me. In January my wonderful mum was diagnosed with Mesothelioma, an incurable cancer caused from exposure to asbestos. This coupled with my business partner (and best friend) Karolina making the sad decision to leave our work partnership of 8 years left me in a complete spin.

On the inside I was heartbroken but I also knew that I could face these challenges because my family, friends and wonderful clients were all behind me.

My beautiful, amazing couples from the earlier months of 2016 have no idea how much they helped me to get thru what was actually a very hard time (personally and professionally) FYI – restructuring a business partnership to a sole trader is painful.

It never ceases to amaze me just how remarkable my clients are. They all have such immense patience and kindness. Their weddings are always so perfectly them. I know I am so so lucky.

One particular couples excitement at randomly spotting me out and about after their wedding; the many cards and emails of thanks as well as some special gifts made me feel like I’ve made some true friends this season. FYI – That Champers will be being consumed at Christmas with my family.

Through this year I’ve had the joy of reconnecting with family’s I first worked with years ago, did many a wedding in the South West, mastered my Instagram account, developed a new appreciation for red wine, danced at receptions when I thought no one was looking, and even fit in a road trip thru the Scottish Highlands and Wales.

Although I lost a business partner in 2016 I also connected with a like-minded community of super talented, amazing photographers right here in Perth. A group who make me feel like I always have someone to talk to about photography and business – they have genuinely been a lifeline to me.

I can honestly say that this year I feel like I’ve found my groove. My clients are all the most awesome people, people I would be honored to call my friends. They all have a place in my heart and every single wedding I’ve photographed this year has been incredible. I thank you all for letting me be a part of your amazing weddings, for having faith and trust in me, for making me feel so welcomed into your lives and most important of all for loving what I do.

This is for my mum – who always believes in me, who gives me courage & who continues to fight.   Jx

Love! I think my fave shot is the cat eyeing off the fruit! Dig your work lovely!

Thanks Louise… There was actually a cooked chicken just out of shot so i think that was where the eyes were going. (our backs were turned for 2 seconds and the cat was on it!) 🙂
